Commitment to the Community

Commitment to the Community Doc Buchanan said, “The schools belong to the people.”

As the founding superintendent of Clovis Unified and leader of the district for 31 years, Doc shaped much of the culture and philosophies that still today drive our approach to education.  Doc was a visionary educator, and he understood from the start that great education is only possible when we as a community work in partnership together.

How are our schools returning on our community’s investment of time, support and tax dollars?  In the following pages you’ll find our annual report to the community, which includes a number of performance indicators for our schools as well as just a few of the personal stories behind those numbers.

For the past three years we have provided our community an annual report during the months of October, November and December using many communication channels. This is an effort to connect with those who do, and don’t, have kids in our schools. We believe staying connected is important.

Doc also said, “When you do something, only do it first class.”  Our students deserve nothing less than our best, and that’s the attitude we apply to everything we do in Clovis Unified.  As you read through these pages – and see or hear about us in the days, weeks and months ahead – you can be confident that this philosophy is being lived out student by student, educator by educator.

This year we have adopted a phrase, “Better Together,” as a call to action and a reminder of the value in working together toward a common goal of excellence in everything that we do.  Thank you for your partnership in this great effort in which we are engaged.  Whether as a parent, business or community leader, retiree or someone new to our area, your engagement with our schools is vital to our success. We truly are Better Together!
